Our History & Mission
Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Lives—for Over Four Decades
For over 45 years, Hope House Ministries has served as a lifeline for individuals and families in crisis. What began as a 10-bed shelter for young men in need of compassionate intervention has grown into a multi-faceted, community-based nonprofit providing housing, counseling, education, and advocacy—all completely free of charge.
Founded to meet a local need, Hope House quickly evolved into a regional resource, now serving youth and adults across Long Island, New England, and even beyond—with alumni from states across the U.S. and countries around the world. Each program is grounded in our mission: to restore dignity and hope to those facing homelessness, addiction, trauma, abuse, and mental health challenges.
As homelessness and substance use continue to rise, especially among young people, our shelters and programs are operating at full capacity, with long waiting lists. Many of those we serve are not counted in official statistics—they’re couch-surfing, on the verge of eviction, or cycling through shelters and transitional housing. Their needs are complex, but our response is simple: a safe, loving environment where healing and growth are possible.
Unlike state-run systems that often offer temporary solutions, Hope House Ministries delivers a holistic approach to care. We create a nurturing sense of family and community, helping individuals develop the tools they need for long-term success—self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving, and personal responsibility.
Our dedicated team of professionals and volunteers serves thousands each year through residential programs, outpatient counseling, addiction recovery, educational support, street outreach, and community wellness seminars. Despite the scope of our work, we receive little government funding, relying instead on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and faith communities who believe in second chances.
Hope House is more than a ministry—it’s a movement of compassion, justice, and healing. We honor every person who walks through our doors, and every donor, volunteer, and partner who makes this work possible. Together, we’re building a tapestry of resilience and hope—one life at a time.
